quite right.
my error.
in 1965 he tried to teach me Latin at Vanderbilt.
but i was quite sucessful in resisting this attempt.
at the end of the spring term he mentioned that he was going to Italy for the
summer.
"To do what?" i axed.
"Going to Montecassino, to work in the library," he says.
The only thing that i knew about Montecassino was that it was the site of a
battle in the Second Acute Collective Psychotic Episode.
"I thought that that place was destroyed," says i.
"It was, but they managed to save a bit of the library."
that was near the beginning of Professor Newton's little work on that
particular place.
when i saw a copy of his book last year at k'zoo i figured that any book which
was 35 years in the making might be worth having, so i bought a copy.
besides, maybe we'd meet up again, he could sign my copy, make it worth
something for my Golden Years.
still haven't read it, of course.
thanks, John, for the correction.
best from here,
christopher
