So, re commercial organisations opportunism,
I agree with Lionel Aldridge (I'm deleting a lot of messages unread)
Why not close the current "lis-pub-libs" address, advertise a new
address to bona fide (???) librarians through LA and start again (with a
couple of new ground rules)

Subject: Re: purpose of lis-pub-libs and postings to the list
Thanks Penny for posting this. I think part of the problem is the
success
of the list - people know they can reach a large number of other
professionals & have no other ready means of doing the same. We probably
need a seperate list for stock & circulation discussions. There have
been a
number of threads I've followed with interest which haven't been to do
with
the internet but there has been a tendency lately to use it as a
soapbox.
Perhaps a redefinition is in order as others have suggested but I would
prefer a focus rather than everything & anything (not necessarily UK
only
either).
We also have a number of contributers whose apology for cross-posting
seems
to be merely empty words (repeated on other lists I'm on).
Whether the LA fits the last we'll all have our own opinions but I hope
they amongst others take your message to heart & stop sending details of
courses with no or only tenuous connection with internet implementation.
I
am even less happy with commercial organisations trying to flog their
courses. Until about a year ago it was rare for me to delete items from
the
list unread - no longer!
