I am Acting Education Officer at Rochester Cathedral, and in the
process of developing new KS2 programmes. I am interested in
using the Literacy Hour format for visits to the cathedral on the basis
that :-
a) we have effectively the first "big books" in our stained glass
windows, which were there in the first place because most people
could not read or write, and
b) it was the monks at the monastery who provided all the texts of the
medieval period, and so the cathedral / monastery was the centre of
learning.
I would be grateful if any members have any information regarding the
literacy hour at their own institutions, and any materials / teachers'
notes which they might feel able to share with me.
I am preparing a presentation which I will be giving on April4th about
this, so info. before then would be much appreciated.
Many thanks.
