STATISTICS COMMISSION: OPEN MEETING ON 17TH JULY
The Statistics Commission was set up in June 2000 to advise on the quality,
quality assurance and priority-setting for National Statistics, and on the
procedures designed to deliver statistical integrity, to help ensure
National Statistics are trustworthy and responsive to public needs. It is
independent of both Ministers and the producers of National Statistics. It
operates in a transparent way with the minutes of its meetings,
correspondence and evidence it receives, and advice it gives, all normally
publicly available for scrutiny.
In line with this open and transparent approach to conducting its business,
the Commission intends to hold an open meeting at 11.45am on Wednesday 17th
July. The purpose of the meeting is to launch the Commission's 2001-02
annual report and to provide an opportunity for anyone to ask questions.
The meeting will take place in the Brunel Room at One Great George Street,
Westminster, London SW1P 3AA from 11.30am to 12.45pm
Please note that, although this is an open meeting, for security reasons we
are obliged to provide the venue with details in advance of those attending.
Anyone intending to do so, therefore, should register their details (name,
organisation - if any - and phone/email contact details) with Peter Whiley
at the Commission's offices at 10 Great George Street, London SW1P 3AE, tel:
020 7273 8006, email [log in to unmask] by noon on Monday 8th
July.
We plan to make copies of the report available earlier that morning, for
those who would like to read it before the meeting starts. Details will be
confirmed nearer the time.
If you have any queries about this notice, please ring Dave Curtis at the
Commission on 020 7273 8003.
