Location: London
Date: 12 December 2002
Fee: £225.00 + VAT (£264.38)
Information literacy, the ability to work effectively with information, is
not a new topic. It has been discussed within the information community for
at least 40 years, particularly in the education sector. Over the last few
years it has emerged in various guises as a concern in organisations as
diverse as UNESCO, the Chatham House Forum, the CBI, the RSA, the DfES and
many employers. The common theme is that the potential benefits of an IT
enabled information society, local or global, depend on the ability of the
all members of an organisation or economy to effectively find, use, share
and manage information.
This seminar will review what is happening to ensure that these skills are
in place and the role that information professionals can and do play in
developing information literacy skills in the workplace, in education and in
society. Speakers from a range of sectors will share techniques that have
proved successful for them and their organisations.
Speakers include: Angela Abell, TFPL; Sheila Corrall, University of
Southampton and President of CILIP; Marc Auckland, British
Telecommunications Plc; Stephen Town, Cranfield University; Carey Craddock &
Angela Donnelly, Unilever; Jenny Brook, University of Huddersfield; Lynn
Barratt, Dixons City Technology College;
