hi
in case you haven't seen these LGA reports (published in NOv 2001), it's worth
looking at:
Realising the Potential of Cultural Services. Fred Coalter, Centre for Leisure
Research, University of Edinburgh
This advocacy document written by a wide variety of partners (including DCMS,
Chief Cultural and Leisure Officers Association and Resource) identifies how
cultural services can contribute to the wider social, economic and
environmental objectives of national and local government. It also advocates
the future policy direction for the cultural sector, in working with colleagues
in the health, education, community safety and regeneration sectors to promote
and research the impact of cultural services on these common central and local
agendas.
see http://www.lga.gov.uk/Documents/Briefing/Our_Work/culture/Advocacy.pdf
There are 2 detailed documents on museums & libraries (with archives mentioned):
Realising the Potential of Cultural Services - Libraries www.lga.gov.
uk/Documents/Briefing/Our_Work/culture/LIBRARIES.pdf;
Realising the Potential of Cultural Services - Museums www.lga.gov.
uk/Documents/Briefing/Our_Work/culture/MUSEUMS.pdf
I think I'll send copies to our LSCs & local Learning Partnerships.
