hi
I have been speaking to a Museum Service locally about charging. At present the
rates are £1 child; £2 adults and this museum gets about £30,000 pa income from
entry charges.
A suggestion was made that they drop charges all together. This may work in
their favour as they'll get more visitors & more donations, and more from shop
sales (although the shop is currently only small) - all of which may make up
the loss. They cd also look at a benefactor to cover any loss of income, but
this is unlikely as there are no large companies in the area, although a
wealthy American may yet come forwards.
Can anyone give examples of where musuems have dropped charges (or introduced
charges) & what effect this had had.
We have a copy of the recent report on free entry to Nationals.
thanks
