Applications are invited for a three year Medical Research Council
Research Studentship in the design and analysis of clinical trials in acute
stroke and head injury. The student will join the MRC Brain Damage
co-operative group at the University of Glasgow. The project will involve
the development of statistical models for outcome prediction and will apply
these to optimise the design of clinical trials aiming to limit the effects
of brain
damage. The studentship will be jointly supervised by members of the Brain
Damage co-operative group with expertise in acute stroke, head injury and
biostatistics.
Applicants should have, or expect to obtain, a 1st or upper 2nd class
honours
degree in statistics or from a course with statistical content: numerate
graduates
from degrees in biomedical subjects will also be considered. The 2000/2001
stipend for an MRC studentship in the first year was ?9,900 plus tuition
fees.
The possibility of attracting additional CASE funding for the studentship
is being
explored. The studentship is open to candidates ordinarily resident in the
UK for
three years prior to application for the studentship or having a "relevant
connection" with the UK as defined by MRC regulations. The studentship
will
start in October 2001 and will run for three years.
Further information on the studentship may be obtained from Professor
Kennedy Lees, Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, University of
