The Centre for Evidence-Based Pharmacotherapy at Aston University,
Birmingham, UK offers courses leading to the award of
Certificate/Diploma/MSc in Evidence-Based Pharmacotherapy
Start 1 October 2001
Deadline for applications: 15 August 2001
The highly regarded programmes are part-time, distance-learning and
module-based. The programmes, taught by a multidiciplinary team, provide
training in the design, critical appraisal and quantitative synthesis of the
results of clinical studies. The skills taught are in high demand by the
pharmaceutical industry and agencies supporting the National Institute of
Clinical Excellence. At the end of the course you should be able to
1. Understand the principles of evidence-based medicine [Certificate /
Diploma / MSc]
2. Critically appraise research evidence [Certificate / Diploma / MSc]
3. Formulate, in broad outlines, a sound protocol for a systematic review or
pharmacoeconomic assessment [Diploma / MSc]
4. Undertake a systematic review or a pharmacoeconomic assessment [MSc].
The courses, which have a practical focus, derive strength from the
extensive experience of the staff of the Centre for Evidence-Based
Pharmacotherapy in undertaking systematic reviews and economic assessments.
The School of Pharmacy at Aston also offers distance-learning postgraduate
courses in Psychiatric Pharmacy and Community Clinical Pharmacy.
