I was one of those stuck in the bar area - but probably my own fault as I
couldn't get there before 6:40. It was the first time I had gone to SciBar
and I was impressed with the numbers there - and on that point agree with
Michael that it wouldn't work in a half empty room. I also appreciate the
logistical problems in terms of numbers of booking a 'turn up (or not) one
and all' approach so don't want to criticise those involved. But the main
problem for me and the others in the bar area was simply being unable to
hear what was being said - the PA system was being erratic, but even when it
was working it wasn't loud enough to be heard over the background noise from
the bar and the few other stray punters who weren't there for the event. If
the PA system worked effectively, and if speakers were aware of the problem
and disciplined about using the microphone then it would be much improved.
