Dear All
Stuart Davies, the Director of Strategy and Planning at Resource the
Council for Museums, Archives and Libraries is currently working on a
report on the future of regional museums. The report has been
commissioned and funded by DCMS. Some of you may have been involved in
the consultation meetings which were held around the UK earlier this
year. All the Regional Museum Councils were involved as well as
professional organisations like AIM, the MA etc. The Chair of GEM
attended one of the consultation meetings.
The report will emphasise the role museums play in supporting and
promoting formal, informal and lifelong learning. Stuart is very keen
for the report to demonstrate the difference museums can make rather
than to simply assert it. He would also like to be able to draw
Minister's attention to the particular role museums can play in
supporting and delivering the National Curriculum.
We are therefore looking for quotations from teachers and learners which
demonstrate how, in their opinion particular programmes, services or
resources have supported or encouraged or stimulated their own learning.
If, in your evaluation of your work, you have identified comments which
could be used to illustrate and support the case which is being made for
museums as learning centres we would be grateful if you could send them
to us. If you have evidence of your work encouraging people back in to
formal learning that would be very useful as would testimony from
teachers about the impact of museum experiences on attainment and
motivation. We are looking for powerful and punchy comments which we can
use to demonstrate the impact of our sector to stakeholders, funders and
government.
I am on leave from August 8th and will therefore need to suspend my
mail. I would therefore be grateful if you could copy any information
you send in response to this e-mail to [log in to unmask]
so that she can ensure that Stuart has all the available evidence in my
absence.
With many thanks for your help
Best wishes
Sue Wilkinson
