Trevor,
Sorry - my last email an ADS special!
DNF is the Digital National Framework. The Ordnance Survey are
radically changing how they will deliver maps. In essence you will soon
buy maps the way you buy pizzas- by deciding which toppings you want.
"DNF" will allow you to say things like "I want waterways, contours and
archaeology but not roads".
GML is the Geography Markup Language and its a way of coding geographic
information to deliver it across the Internet just like HTML delivers
web pages to your browser now. It's hoped that, because GML is an open
standard, it will help organisations to share geographic information
with one another. GML is coming because the OS are going to use it t
deliver their new DNF files. If GML works you could create a GIS
work-space in your web browser selecting your pizza base from the OS
with toppings from EH, the National Trust ....
All best wishes,
William
