Thanks for such a prompt contribution Neil!
I agree that the Modernising Government agenda is a significant factor in
our work. one note of caution that I might add though is that, as
representatives of the heritage sector, we need to focus our efforts on the
standards that only we can develop ie those that describe and make
accessible heritage data. There is a danger of getting diverted into work
that is already being undertaken by government initiatives such as the
Government Interoperability Forum. Clearly as a sector we have a lot of
experience that is relevant to those initiatives, and we need to support
them as far as resources allow, but as a group I'd suggest that we need to
get our own subject area sorted out first.
As regards images - yes absolutely I agree that we are moving into a visual
world (including VR and other wonderful things, as described by Mike
Pringle). Perhaps our priority as FISH though needs to be the standards that
describe and make accesible these resources.
What does anyone else think?

Dear Ed,
Since Government want us to do everything electronically, we need some
investigation of planning portals, standardised planning information logging
and retieval systems, real-time info collection systems, and standardised
historic building data capture systems (to include images / photographs).
We need to start thinking about iconic data capture / recording systems too
(a picture tells a thousand words!).
Cheers,
Neil
