Hi All,
A standard list of codes would be useful, with analysts drawing
from the list once they have decided what attributes of their assemblage
should be recorded. That means we are all still tailoring our protocols to
our assemblages and research goals but sharing of information
is made easier. Most of us use coding (APH for first phalange, for
example) of some sort to keep spreadsheets readable. In addition to that,
measurements are usually as per Von den Driesch (a standard most of us are
familiar with) and taphonomy is frequently recorded as per Behrensmeyer
(another familiar standard). I'll have to have a look at Richard's
suggestions for reading up on previous attempts at establishing standard
codes. Thanks for those!
