Dear All,
The University of Manchester (as a member of IMTAL-Europe, the International
Museum Theatre Alliance) has just been awarded a major grant from the Arts
and Humanities Research Board to establish an evaluation project which will
compare and contrast the learning benefits of live interpretation/museum
theatre and more traditional forms of museum/heritage on-site education.
This will build on the findings of a smaller pilot project, part-funded by
GEM and led by myself, which is currently taking shape at the Tower of
London. The results of the project will be presented at the next GEM
conference in Edinburgh 2002.
Details of an interesting 8-month full-time research post to support the
major project are outlined below (an advert will also appear in the next
issue of Museums Journal). Please note that expressions of interest should
be sent to Tony Jackson at the University of Manchester direct, not to me.
In the meantime, anyone interested in becoming a member of IMTAL-Europe
(next meeting July 5th at Milestones, near Basingstoke) and/or in attending
the global IMTAL conference to be held in London (at the Science/Natural
History Museums, Tower of London and NFT/MOMI, immediately after GEM this
September) should e-mail any of these contacts:
