I can see that's a factor, but all the same many similar organisations now
make back numbers available free on the web. For example, I'm a fellow of
the Royal Astronomical Society and it is subscriptions like mine which
funds the journals, but I'm glad that the society finds it possible to
make back issues freely available to everyone on the web, and not just
members of the society. After all, if you are a member, you don't really
need on-line access, you probably have book shelves groaning under the
weight already.
