I found very interesting the paper by
Mancktelow and Pavlis: Fold-Fault relationships in low-angle
detachment systems.
1994, Tectonics, vol. 13, No. 2, 668-685
It clearly shows the relationships between normal faulting and
folding. It seems that the folds are not passive sheath folds but
mechanically active buckle folds in layering, foliation and the
detachment surfaces themselves. They seem to represent an overall
bulk shortening in a near horizontal direction perpendicular to the
extension direction of the associated normal faulting.
