Leah,
A few years ago I bought a box of pretty revolting old books for 5$
(Canadian!) at a garage sale. At the bottom was the Latin-French dictionary
of Quicherat and Daveluy (ed. 1935, therefore strongly reeking of whatever
process was used to make paper in those days), which I strongly recommend
if you can find it in 2nd hand book store. It certainly doesn't replace
Niermeyer, but is nevertheless very useful as a supplement, since some of
its sources (often clearly identified) date from well into the 7th century,
and it sometimes has words and definitions missing from Niermeyer and
DuCange as well as from dicts. of classical Latin.
