To clarify my question, thanks to comments so far: the Nicene Creed says
"on the third day he rose again." But a large body of more popular
religious material persists in saying that Jesus rose "from his three days
in the tomb." It's how we got from "third day" to "three days" that has
always bothered me while singing Easter hymns.
