But were they posted? There was quite a debate over this in the
1970s! Some historians think they were merely sent to other scholars
as was customary as an inviation to formal disputation but not
actually post on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg. Unless,
of course, you mean by "posted" "put in the mail"--but even the Counts
of Thurn and Taxis were not yet operating a "postal system" in those
days--private messengers were employed.
