Thanks to all for the comments on using photographs of children on museum
websites. The views expressed below are my personal interpretation of comments
offered by other members of the list and should not be taken as authoritative
advice!
Guidance from leas appears to vary widely but the best advice seems to be that
you should always get the written permission of a parent or guardian before
using a picture of a child in any published medium, print, web or other. Advice
is also that you should always avoid publishing any information with a
photograph that would allow individual children to be identified. Views have
also been expressed that you should avoid anything which indicates that a
particular group of children in a photograph meet regularly at a particular
place (e.g. a regular Saturday club) and that you should avoid 'full face' shots
which make it easy to identify individual children.
