Augustine's influence and radiation was mainly restricted to the Western
Church. However, we can find in some writings of important Eastern
(Orthodox) bishops references to St. Augustine. The most important:
patriarchs Photius, Gennadius II Scholarius and Marcus of Ephese. My
question is to which heigh these prelates (considered in their time and
beyond as "erudits") had knowledge of the writings of the bishop of Hippo.
Can we found in their works references to and/of quotations of Augustine's
sermons, treatises, letters and autobiography? Had they really read the
writings of St. Augustine, or was their knowledge - and so their judgement -
based on what was quoted during the 5th and 6th Ecumenical Council?
