Aims and Objectives
This day-long course is aimed at children's librarians in public
libraries
or those interested in recent developments in public library
services to
children. The course aims to:
1. Raise awareness of the current state-of-play in children's
librarianship;
2. Introduce participants to new initiatives in children's public
library
services.

The Facilitators
Christina Dyer is Service Advisor (Children's and Young Peoples
Services)
for Leicestershire Libraries and Information Service. Prior to her
current
post she managed the Education Library Services for Cornwall County
Library
Services and held Divisional and Children's Librarian posts with
Hampshire
County Library Service. An active member of the YLG, Christina
represents
the YLG on the Youth Libraries Committee of the LA Council.
Fran Renwick has worked in libraries since 1980, starting out as a
part-time library assistant. After qualifying with an MA from
Loughborough
University in 1988, she became a School Librarian in a large
community
secondary school. She took a short career break before returning to
full-time study and qualifying as an English teacher. Fran returned
to
public libraries, after a short spell of teaching, in 1994 as a
Children's
Librarian and she is now Senior Librarian - Children and Education
with
Derby City Libraries.
Tricia Kings is Co-ordinator of Library Services to Young People,
Derbyshire Libraries and Heritage. Previously employed by Somerset
and
Nottinghamshire Libraries, she was Children's Services Co-ordinator
for
Nottingham District from 1987-1995. Tricia is a member of the
steering
group of LauchPad, the reading development agency, a member of the
Children's PLUS development group and past chair of the Library
Association
Youth Libraries Group.
