Quality and networked services: a discussion forum
Chair: Andrew Stevens, Westminster Libraries and Archives
Tuesday 13th April 1999 12.00 - 4.30
John Clare Theatre, Peterborough Library
EARL discussion forums are a series of workshops designed to address issues
related to developing and delivering public library services in a networked
environment
This event is a joint venture between the EARL/LA/UKOLN Networked Services
Policy Task Group and the Quality Forum. Both groups have a mutual concern
to address the issues of quality involved in the delivery of electronic
information services for the New Library Network, and to support public
library staff with practical advice and guidance.
Aim of the forum
The workshop is designed to consider how public libraries should develop
their mediation role to help maximise public access to quality information
sources via the network - accurate, current, authoritative, well-managed,
accessible, stable, objective - and what implications this has for
Collection Management policies. It is important that as LIS professionals,
the services we manage and develop are fit for their purpose and relevant
to users in an electronic environment. The workshop will look at the
issues involved for the New Library Network, offer a viewpoint on examples
of best practice, consider approaches to the preparation, delivery and
assessment of networked services, and provide an opportunity for delegates
to discuss issues in more detail and agree action lines. These will also
inform the EARL NSPTG issue paper on quality and networked services.
Who should attend?
Who should attend? The day is aimed at those who are responsible for
collection management and standards of service delivery in their library
authority. It will be particularly relevant to those who are working on
ICT service strategies and their implementation as the New Library Network
is rolled out.
