Subject: Budget: Community Learning Centres

and Sarah Ormes posted some extracts. Apart from the pleasure rightly
expressed by Susi Woodhouse, any buzz at present might focus on lots of
questions like:
- how does this Government initiative mesh with Building the New
Library
Network?
- how does it mesh with the New Opportunities Fund's 50 million for
content and 20 million for library staff ICT training, and with 'New
Links for the Lottery'?
- have 1,000 communities already been identified by Government?
- how were the costings arrived at? what do they include?
- which Department/s and/or agencies will be responsible for it?
- how will the network of community learning centres be
managed/co-ordinated and their performance monitored/evaluated?
- will NOF be allocating (some of) the 670 million, or some other
body/bodies?
- will there be yet another bidding process?
- what will be the opportunities for the public and private sectors?
- will there be a role for local authorities? RDAs? Regional Cultural
Consortia?
- what are the timescales?
Even so, sounds intriguing, exciting - and challenging!
Stuart.
