Developing Museum Websites

This seminar will provide the opportunity to view new websites developed
for The Bowes Museum, The Durham Light Infantry Museum, Killhope Lead
Mining Centre incorporating searchable databases and interactive Virtual
Reality movies.
A presentation by Iain Watson and Jeanette Stephenson of the Arts,
Libraries and Museum Department, Durham County Council and John Seymour,
web developer, will examine the following issues:
the purpose of a museum website and what can it achieve
the pitfalls to be avoided in developing a museum website
use of new technology, such as interactive VR in museum websites
design and clarity for museum websites
obtaining and selecting images for a museum website including use of
digital cameras
There will also be the opportunity to see the new 32 bit implementation of
The Durham Record (database of 10,000 photographs with Ordnance Survey maps
and running
This seminar is organised by the Arts, Libraries and Museums Department,
Durham County Council
and is provided as part of a project funded through the Museums and
Galleries Commission's Information and Communication Technology Networking
