BRIEF ENCOUNTERS: DO VISITORS LEARN IN MUSEUMS?
Professor George E. Hein
SEPTEMBER 30 1999 at 5.15 pm at Leicester University, New Building, University
Road.
Museum visits represent relatively infrequent and casual activities when
compared to comparable 'educational' experiences.. Yet, profound learning takes
place in museums. Using illustrations from a range of museums and galleries,
Prof. Hein explores this apparant paradox. Its resolution requires that we
examine contrasting theories of education, and provides guidelines for the
design of museum exhibitions and programs.
