The COMO project (Challenge Of Materials Online) at the Science Museum, is
an innovative, educational Internet initiative. Growing out of the success
of one of our most recently developed galleries, Challenge of Materials, it
provides schools and teachers with a unique opportunity to gain technical
Internet know-how combined with project work based on materials.
The idea is that teachers and students collaborate to publish Web pages on
their school or college site. The pages must be on the subject of materials
and based on either a visit to the Challenge of Materials gallery at the
Science Museum, another museum or a materials-related local business. Once
accepted they are added to the COMO database, with a link from the Science
Museum Website to the school or college site.
Amongst other things, schools and colleges can benefit from:
- Guidance on how to produce Web pages
- Visits to and interaction with local sites of the steel and other
materials industries
This initiative encourages and supports students and teachers to develop a
public library of information and project work accessible for all levels of
education.
