As most of you will be aware, the Social Exclusion Unit (SEU) has initiated
an important programme of Action Teams addressing neighbourhood renewal.<
Kevin
As you know, the SLIPWAY project in Newham is addressing these among other
issues. We are waiting for confirmation of our ERDF funding (like not a few
others!) but hope to be off and running very soon.
Would you like to 'observe' what we are doing with the deliberate imtention
of drawing out lessons for the SEU? If so, we would need to agree with you
a research project (SLIPWAY is 'action research' anyway) and you would have
to appoint a researcher to carry out the work. We have no resources to
spare so could not do any of the research for you. I think I could persuade
our steering board to go along with such an exercise.
One of our objectives is to enable micro-enterprises to undertake
electronic business cost effectively by reducing costs through economies of
scale and simplifying access for them and their customers through
'community mentoring' - a terminological escalation for 'asking your
neighbour for help to get started'.
Your willing guinea-pig, Adrian Norman
