Our MLSO who looks after near-patient testing asks:
The Boehringer protocol for using their BM5L sticks (pH, protein, glucose,
ketones & blood) refers to the need to wash before collecting the sample.
We are not aware of nurses imposing this. A literature search refers only
to ancient data on microbiological contamination and one article
considering urine nitrite.
Does anyone have, or know of references to, hard data concerning any
interference of false results arising from failure to wash?
Thanks in anticipation,
