This may be the wrong religion and the wrong period but . . .
Buddhist Saints in India, Ray, Reginald A, 1994
mentions Indian Buddhist Saints choosing to beg alms from lepers
rather than rich people (to allow those most needy to acquire good
karma) and the leper's finger dropping off into the alms. The saint
of course gratefully devours it.
