There is a delightful passage somewhere in John Wycliffe's treatise on the
Eucharist (I can't find the reference, I'm afraid), an argument against
the notion of transubstantiation, about mice eating consecrated hosts. His
argumentis that mice, being creatures of God, have the God-given gift or
recognizing food that is appropriate for their sustenance. Since,
therefore, they recognize and eat the host, the latter must be bread.
