I am late to jump in on this thread, because I had technical problems with
telephone line and now my e-mail is in perfect disorder, stored separately
on two different computers, one of which seems to hide part of my mail where
I have not yet been able to find it. In one of the mails which seem to have
vanished, Annalisa kindly mentioned my bibliography on the six ages to
someone who, as I recall it, was working on Bede. If you are still
interested (sorry, I don't remember your name), please contact me off the
list, and I will sent you what info I have.
To answer two of Robert Bradshaw's questions quickly:
>3) Knows what "P G" stands for in the work cited above for Julius Africanus.
P.G.= Patrologia Graeca. The reference is to his World Chronicle (treating
the time until 217 or 221) in Migne's _Patrologia Graeca_, volume 10, column 65
>4) Can give me a date for Sulpiicius Severus (and cite an English transation
>if possible).
Sulpicius Severus was born ca. 363 and died ca. 420. His Chronicle covers
the history of the Jews until the year of the crucifixion and several later
topics until ca. 400. The terminus ante quem non for its publication is 403.
The Latin text was edited by C. Halm, CSEL (= Corpus Scriptorum
Ecclesiasticorum), vol. 1 (1866), and by A. Lavertujon, 1859-1899 (2 vols.,
with commentary), but I don't know of an English translation.
