Hello everyone - I hope you are all keeping as well as possible at the
moment.
I wanted to write to you on behalf of some of the exhibit designers and
makers in this group. Many of the designers and makers have small, local
or home-based workshops and spend a lot of their time working alone (or
in small teams) - most of them are still able to function as normal. In
fact, in the absence of exhibition installs, summer events and meetings,
some people may find their productivity has increased in the last few
weeks! Additionally, I know that many of us still have semi-working
supply chains, because many of these people can also operate in isolation.
Ordinarily, this time of year is frantic with preparation for things
opening in the summer (after a crazy spring leading up to Easter
holidays) but this year things are obviously very different and clearly
the designers and makers may have less to do than normal. This may mean
that certain smaller bits of work may be do-able that would otherwise be
hard to fit in at this time of year.
Clearly a lot of venues / organisations will not be ordering things at
the moment but if anyone did have any design / build / testing /
prototyping jobs that could be done by one person, I'm sure the
designer-maker community would welcome the enquiries. I'm aware that
some venues still have grants and budgets that need to be completed by a
certain time.
I have refrained from listing people here because I don't want to
exclude anyone but I'm sure you all know the people I'm referring to. If
you need any contacts or help, please let me know and I can pass you on
to the right people.
Thanks, Ken
