Hi,
We have an internal funding system for say, projects, editing, and others. We are strongly encouraged to seek outside funding and in every application we have to describe how we will find outside funding.
Each department allocates out of their budget a travel fund for each faculty. This would cover the flight, hotel, meals, and conference fees. But if we don’t present, we don’t get that fund.
And it does not cover all. Often we have to put a percentage of our money.
Where I am at, the Art and Art History Dept. if we don’t travel, we can use that money for show expenses, competition entry fees, and so on.
I don’t know how it works in other departments or colleges in my institution.
Hope this helps.
