Have your thought about computers that draw portraits from photographs? They maybe raise interesting issues about the nature of art, humanity and representation. There are many examples, some very sophisticated and expensive. This guy is UK based and uses low tech components:

On the subject of technology, there are various face morphing programs which can make faces more or less feminine or masculine. Some programs can develop an ‘average’ face from a range of photographs. I am not sure how you can use these, but there might be ways to open up discussion of masculine and feminine as part of the events programme.
