The one right out front for me would be 'Grandma/Grandpa, have you annotated the family photograph album so I know who is who?' Without this, treasured memories become mere ephemera, to be tossed away in charity shop boxes. Sob. If my own grandfather had not annotated his war diary, I would not have been able to write Major Tom's War.
I look forward to seeing any GEMmers who are attending the Military History Festival in Malvern tomorrow, and hope you will be staying on for the inaugural SAHR Military Fiction prize reception afterwards. Major Tom's War has been shortlisted (alongside distinguished company) so flying down from the Highlands for a rare visit south.

Subject: Questions for grandparents
Dear Gem,
Many years ago we had a family history exhibition and a local FH Society had a leaflet along the lines of 10 Questions to Ask Your Parents/Grandparents. Has anyone come across anything similar when doing family history/oral history/reminiscence workshops?
If so any examples or a copy of a simlar leaflet would be perfect.
Thanks in advance.
