Dear all *Apologies for cross-posting*,
We have recently written a case study that we feel might be really helpful to a lot of people, so we wanted to share. The study follows the journey of the largest local authority in the UK and how they moved from physical records and very old, heavy, archives, to digitisation and transcription
These records needed to be searchable, so that staff and members of the public could conduct research for personal or genealogical reasons, and this meant they also needed to be public. For this they needed software that would enable them to publish their digitised archives online and a secure method for hosting them.
This case study will be really helpful for anyone who wishes to learn more about the process for the digitisation of their precious archives and how an organisation might go about making these records more accessible.
You can find Phase 1 of the case study here: https://www.townswebarchiving.com/2019/04/case-study-digitising-the-birmingham-city-councils-burial-cremation-records-collection-phase-1/
You can find Phase 2 of the case study here: https://www.townswebarchiving.com/2019/05/case-study-digitising-the-birmingham-city-councils-burial-cremation-records-collection-phase-2/
We hope that you find this content informative and helpful.
Many thanks,
Jess
