The lawyers at the conference reported that typically text in (text only) contracts is cut and paste from earlier contracts and mostly comprises generic disclaimers rather than being simply about the agreement at hand. Focusing on replacing most of the words with pictorial content had the effect of refocusing the contracts to purpose.

I understand the intent and I’m always interested in these attempts to make legal documents more accessible. There is a large movement around the world concerned with this issue. See for example: https://aus01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.legaltechdesign.com%2F&data=02%7C01%7Cs.medley%40ECU.EDU.AU%7Cc261966af596413da3f708d6cc8f990f%7C9bcb323d7fa345e7a36f6d9cfdbcc272%7C1%7C0%7C636921314457150137&sdata=dkZpWEOeOq6252KlNT9yt%2FaPaqQEz3S42SGndIZUt6U%3D&reserved=0
We have also done some work in this area as have other information designers. I touch briefly on this in a recent paper: https://aus01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sciencedirect.com%2Fscience%2Farticle%2Fpii%2FS2405872618300194&data=02%7C01%7Cs.medley%40ECU.EDU.AU%7Cc261966af596413da3f708d6cc8f990f%7C9bcb323d7fa345e7a36f6d9cfdbcc272%7C1%7C0%7C636921314457150137&sdata=o6I9lPhWcjrOj5givwkprBmhu9v95WpFq%2BkM%2FXYirYo%3D&reserved=0 under the subject of 'Visible Legalese'

Most of the work I see lacks the type of evidence that we would find acceptable. But that is a whole other issue, ripe for further research.
I could go on at length but that would be boring to none specialists. If I may summarise the issue in the case of the comics: It is certainly true that a picture is worth a thousand words. The problem is which thousand and for whom?
I would strongly recommend my book: Learning and Visual Communication as a way into this quite intriguing issue: https://aus01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.taylorfrancis.com%2Fbooks%2F9780429021909&data=02%7C01%7Cs.medley%40ECU.EDU.AU%7Cc261966af596413da3f708d6cc8f990f%7C9bcb323d7fa345e7a36f6d9cfdbcc272%7C1%7C0%7C636921314457150137&sdata=uQWH6eEmrpgzlukyI6jcDvmJp1Q6uruwsn8%2B%2Bye0nH8%3D&reserved=0
It’s available as an ebook these days.
