Thanks for the link. Your findings are surprising indeed.
The comics contracts discussed at the conference were not about ‘plain language’ per se, but about reducing the amount of text in contractual agreements overall and maximising the use of sequential pictures. The lawyers at the conference reported that typically text in (text only) contracts is cut and paste from earlier contracts and mostly comprises generic disclaimers rather than being simply about the agreement at hand. Focusing on replacing most of the words with pictorial content had the effect of refocusing the contracts to purpose.

I look forward to reading the research. However, if you look at some of our findings and skepticism about plain language, you will see that lack of disputes may not be an adequate basis for celebration.
