Doctoral Student, DESIGN RESEARCH IN DIGITAL FABRICATION

Position description
A four-year doctoral student position is available at the confluence of design research and digital fabrication in the Design Research in Digital Fabrication research group of Associate Professor Georgi V. Georgiev at the Center for Ubiquitous Computing, Faculty of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to collaborative research efforts to explore the foundations of human ideation and creative performance through the use of digital fabrication techniques and technology. Targeted applications of interest include design creativity, digital prototyping, personal fabrication, design computing and cognition, artificial intelligence for creativity, conceptual design, interaction design, and human and social aspects of digital fabrication. The doctoral student is also expected to contribute to the teaching of BSc. and MSc. level courses on design research and digital fabrication.
The doctoral student will have access to the state-of-the-art Fab Lab Oulu (https://www.oulu.fi/fablab/) and a professional workshop with tools and expertise for building more complex devices. The doctoral student has a personal travel budget to attend at least one international conference every year. The doctoral student will join an international and multidisciplinary research community of researchers from multiple faculties and disciplines that collaborates on creating new digital solutions in sensing and interactions.
The earliest possible starting date is May 1, 2019, but the position will remain open until filled.
The successful applicant must hold a MSc. degree in computer science, HCI, design research or a related field that will be completed by June 30, 2019.
