London Metropolian Archives is delighted to announce the latest programme updates for its annual disability history conference which will take place on the 23 November 2018.

LMA’s Disability History Conferences brings to together heritage organisations, academics and grassroots groups to discuss themes in disability history. The Focus for this year is access to heritage and links cultural and creative expression

Valuable and Reciprocal
With contributors including London Metropolitan Archives and Action for Stammering Children this session is themed on the valuable and reciprocal relationships between history, heritage organisations and people with disabilities. It will include case studies drawn from the realms of education, outreach and volunteering.

Explorations in Personal History
Members of the PurpleSTARS team will share and recount their experiences of exploring their history, both as people with learning disabilities and as people of African and Caribbean Heritage. This will include details of their work with the Lord Rix archive and as well as their contributions to audience engagement and preparations for a pop up installation with Hackney Museum's Roots, Records and Rhythms exhibition on the Borough's history of African and Caribbean Music.
Based at RIX Research & Media PurpleSTARS brings together artists and technologists with and without disabilities to transform heritage experiences and make them really inclusive. They use sensory and digital media to create alternative interpretations of heritage collections.

Hands on Workshop Inclusive History and Culture through Digital Media
The PurpleSTARS team will lead conference delegates in creating personal and reflective material in accessible digital and multimedia formats to demonstrate the inclusive ways of working with history and culture that the purpleSTARS have been pioneering.
