IET Launches New Open-Access Journal Cognitive Computation and Systems
As part of a successful partnership with Shenzhen University in PR China, the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) is launching a new open access journal, Cognitive Computation and Systems (CCS). This new journal has a multi-disciplinary perspective, and will publish original theoretical and experimental papers on cognitive systems.
Fuelled by the current wave of artificial intelligence, cognitive computation is flourishing, and an ever-increasing range of applications based on this technology is becoming available to the general public. As a result, machine-learning solutions are dramatically transforming the way we live and interact, and are having a profound impact on a wide range of disciplines and industries. CCS will become a hub for the integration of the neurosciences, psychology, robotics, control science and computer science, and will emphasise the requirement for integrating cognitive theoretical models and physical systems. Crucially, the scope of the journal covers practical cognitive theories and algorithms for real-world physical systems.
Despite remarkable progress, machine learning is not without its challenges, especially in the open environment. CCS Editor-in-Chief, Fuchun Sun, Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Technology at Tsinghua University, PR China, explains: “Machine learning systems have come far in recent years. But there is still a great deal of work to do, in areas such as perception, planning, movement, learning and reasoning. No single discipline has all the answers. Models and ideas from a wide range of disciplines are needed. Cognitive Systems and Computation will therefore act as a touchstone for researchers working in machine learning and cognition, whatever their background. It is a forward-looking project, and one that is needed to overcome the major roadblocks.”
Vincent Cassidy, Head of IET Academic Publishing comments, “I’m delighted that the IET is continuing to enhance its reputation as one of the premier publishers across the engineering sciences. Cognitive Systems and Computation journal is just the latest in a growing collection of IET open access journals, a key part of the IET’s burgeoning academic publishing programme”.
