Hello!
MGS have received £535, 000 from the Heritage Lottery fund to support a training programme which will address workforce issues including skills sharing, a lack of diversity in the museum sector; a lack of accessible entry and progression routes; and tackle vital skills gaps.
[
his national learning programme will provide 22 non graduate new entrants from diverse backgrounds with one year placements in museums across Scotland. Learners will undertake roles vital to the sustainability of the sector including collections care and management; digitisation; fundraising and marketing; learning programmes and volunteer management.
There will be two levels of learner-entry level and management level. All Learners will undertake the SVQ3 in Museums and Galleries Practice, have access to a bespoke training programme and receive a professional mentor for the duration of their learning placement. The management level trainees will undertake a management programme delivered by the Social Enterprise Academy
We are looking for host organisations that are passionate about diversity, passing on skills and developing a learning culture in their organisation and the wider sector. Feedback from previous host organisations have said that having a learner brought a new dynamic to their organisation, brought new and fresh ideas, encouraged current staff to reflect on their own practice, increased organisational capacity and allowed the museums to take its work in new directions.
The closing date for applications is 12th March 2018
Application forms and the host application pack can be found here:
