Centre of the Cell is the first science education centre in the world to be located within medical research laboratories. The Centre is located in Whitechapel, Tower Hamlets, East London. Centre of the Cell has been awarded a grant by NIHR Public Health Research to evaluate the impact of the London Ultra Low Emission Zone on children’s lung growth and respiratory health.
Centre of the Cell has been awarded a grant by NIHR Public Health Research to evaluate the impact of the London Ultra Low Emission Zone on children’s lung growth and respiratory health. As part of this study, Centre of the Cell will develop a workshop on ‘Air Pollution’ to be delivered to primary school children, as part of a wider research project investigating the impact of London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) on children’s respiratory health. A key element of this project is to provide interactive education sessions, in the form of workshops, to schools and children in Central London and Luton. The educational sessions will be co-ordinated by Centre of the Cell, in collaboration with the Centre for Primary Care and Public Health, who are the main recipients of the grant.
Candidates must have a degree in a science subject or relevant appropriate experience, have experience working in a public facing role, experience of developing educational resources, be able to organise a varied workload, and communicate effectively with a diverse range of organisations, groups and individuals. Excellent presentation and communications skills are essential. Candidates must be willing to be flexible on hours of work on a regular basis.
We are looking to recruit two candidates, one full time (1FTE) and one part-time (0.6FTE), both fixed term appointments for 12 months, with an expected start date of February 2018 or soon after. Starting salary will be £26,717 (pro-rata for part time) inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave (pro-rata for part-time), defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
