coloured cloth in box. .
The 4 spines are embossed with the name Joseph spread out across
the 4 spines .
Recessed in the sides of the box are remnants of the original
dust wrapper.
Professor. Robert Auty's set with his name in ink and dated
London, 1940 on f.e.p. £ 150
Auty (1914 - 1978 ) initially became a lecturer in German and
then switched to Slavic studies.
He was Professor of Slavic philology at Oxford University till
1965 - 1978. .
We bought his extensive library, it took us a full week to empty
his college rooms. .
He had an extraordinary practical command of many languages,
including German,
French, Czech, Hungarian, Slovak, Polish, Serbo-Croat, and
Russian.
