Dear Lauren,
At the Pitt Rivers we have been looking at how museums can be developed as safe spaces for vulnerable groups and we have been working with a variety of groups and audiences in relation to this. One of the things we have been supporting for the last year or so is an Oxford group called My Normal (through an HLF funded project called Verve). It is a group for transgender teenagers to meet and discuss things. Effectively we are a free venue for them. But the Pitt Rivers seems a much more appropriate, and inspiring, space than a community centre for this kind of group. Museums are one of the few trusted institutions in this country, and the wonderful work done by GEM members over the past twenty years is one of the main reasons why that is the case. Our HLF project is about to finish, but supporting this group is one of the parts of the project that we want to continue to support.
Best wishes,
Andy

For my Masters Dissertation, I am interested in looking at the representation of the LGBTQ+ community in Museums spaces and whether this is a place in which they are welcomed for my dissertation. I was wondering if there were specific resources or articles anyone could point me towards that might be of use, as well as any specific exhibitions or museums which come to mind which may be useful to look at.
