Hi Vicki;
Our info on ratios is here, for all to see:
http://www.sussex.ac.uk/library/teaching/readinglistsupport/purchasingpolicy
Slight ambiguity of the term Core - our Core Collection is 24hr loans, but 'Core' on this page also seems to mean what I'd call 'Essential' items.
*makes note to amend web page*
And actually our Collection Development policy is on the web on this page:
http://www.sussex.ac.uk/library/about/policy
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Best wishes,
Rachel.

Subject: [lis-e-resources] Book Purchasing Ratios
Good Morning Everyone,
I am currently writing with colleagues a new Collection Development and Management Policy. One of the areas of discussion is book purchasing ratios, which I would like to introduce but some colleagues are not sure about. Our budget has been reduced considerably over the last 3 years and I see this as a way to constrain spending. Other colleagues are concerned that this would use up our bookfund, as I also want to go to reading list driven zero budgeting. There are also worries about how we would clearly articulate our ratios to academic colleagues.
Would anybody be willing to share their book purchasing ratios, off-list if preferred, as well as experiences with respect to budget abd communicating to staff.
Also, has anybody got any other approaches they would be willing to share, e.g. have you thought about ratios and decided against.
Many thanks in advance.
Regards
Vicki
