sorry for prolonging also,
I'm a PHD student in very different area than this conversation, at the
very very beginning of the long way. I have learnt so much from the list
and I felt this the right point that I can make a contrubition,(maybe most
of the list already have heard of).
I'm a member of a cooperative which is in the search for the best for their
kids and know it is not the main stream education. So that we are reading,
arguing, sharing on alternative education for more than a coupel of years.
I was quite shocked when I first learnt what are the reasons behind the
mass education system and angry with myself why and how I couldn't be aware
of these long ago. That is why we have tried so hard, (scratching from zero
- all of us but just parents), started up a kindergarten with alternative
education approaches (inspired mostly from Reggio Emiglia, Montessori,
forest schools and Waldorf mainly but all integrated with our cultural
patterns of our locals and main four principles of democratic education,
alternative finance mechanism and ecologic stance) in Izmir, Turkey as one
of the schools of "Another School is Possible" initiative (you can learn
much of it in a few days when english web site is ready -

Here are some links about BBOM primary schools (in Ankara and Bodrum),
festives we have given as cooperatives, daily shool activities, etc.
(Bodrum Mutlu Keci [Happy Goat in Turkish] Primary school was first to join
Ashoka Changemaker shools net from Turkey)
Anyways, anyone with interest in the organization and our school can search
into more:) (www.baskabirokulmumkun.net)
But the links that I'm giving holds some good old videos that striked me
very much and led me to spend much time to think and read on learning
processes and children. I'm lucky to have my daughter graduated at the
first year of our kindergarten with a real childhood year trying to find
her own limits...

Suga Mitra's experiment as very experessive,
Ken Robinson's video was my first video on this web site and made me really
believe in alternative education.
"schools of trust" video makes me feel still chomping at the bit everytime
I watch.
Hope you enjoy your time watching about a quite different area, but I feel
still mind opening.
Best regards,
