Hi
I just wanted to share the fact that I attended the first performance of
"Sorting the Sock Drawer" last Friday evening. It is a one-woman
storytelling/drama presentation, lasting about an hour, which relates one
person's experience of being diagnosed with Alzheimers.
It is written and performed by a former colleague of mine, Eirwen Malin. She is
the subject of the piece.
As I watched it I thought that, perhaps, my friends in the museum sector might
want to invite Eirwen along to a training day to perform it. It certainly opened
my eyes to the impact of diagnosis and the disease itself (and I thought I knew
all about it already...).
I'm not linked in any financial way to Eirwen's project but simply wanted to
make you aware of its existence and her story. Powerful stuff if you intend
organising a disability awareness and/or older adults awareness training session
for staff (or maybe for a group of museums coming together).
"Sorting the Sock Drawer" is so new that Eirwen has yet to organise any
promotional material so, if you want to contact her, send me your email and I'll
pass to her.
Regards
Essex Havard
